In terms of vision, the artist has always had a good eye for detail within her style. This particular painting shows steady progress with realism, without sacrificing that essential something which marks out her work.
It's near impossible to be truly original, with the sheer amounts of works in the world today, doubly so with such a limited field as portraits. However, I believe the true originality of *zulou's work lies in it's style, rather than its subject.
The technique is good, with visible texture to the fur and lighting used to good effect. The eyes too show a good level of technique. The framing is also impressive, but doesn't distract from the centre of focus (the dog).
In terms of impact, the image is fairly striking, but also quite understated. The eye could easily drift over it, but in so doing, the eye misses a good piece of artwork. When viewed, the image does have impact, though it is a subtler thing in this picture. Subtlety vs Boldness is something for individuals to decide for themselves, as to which they prefer.
Overall I think this is a very good painting, and shows a good level of competence, and for those of us who have followed her work, it shows her progress and improvement.
Congratulations Zuleika, it's a great piece of work. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>
